In 2018 the Poughkeepsie Alliance Initiated a study to determine the feasibility of turning 1.5 acres of City owned land within Pershing Avenue Park into a community garden. The project was completed through a partnership between the City of Poughkeepsie and Scenic Hudson. The Pershing Avenue Neighborhood Farm and Community Garden is now a space where residents can grow their own fruits and vegetables in 22 community garden plots. A collaborative funding effort also pays the salary of an Urban Farmer who produces and distributes over 1,000 pounds of organic produce free of charge each growing season.
