The City of Poughkeepsie, together with the Poughkeepsie Alliance, Councilmembers Sarah Brannen and Nathan Shook, with MASS Design Group, and RL Baxter Building Corporation, is proud to announce the installation of a new welcome sign at the Academy Street exit from Route 9—one of the city’s most visible gateways. This project restores a long-standing civic landmark and represents the culmination of years of community leadership, inter-organizational collaboration, and a shared commitment to strengthening Poughkeepsie’s sense of arrival, identity, and pride.

Sign installation, initially planned for Fall of 2025, was delayed due to material delays and a long string of inclement weather, but was finally completed this past week. The planting of a tree and new landscaping will wrap up this project in early spring, with an official ribbon-cutting to follow. Stay tuned for further details!
